Floods in the Škocjan Caves

On Friday 12th december the discharge of the Reka river become exceedingly high.  



  Reka rivers average rate of flow before sinkholes is 8.95 m3/s, reaching up to 400 m3/s during heavy flooding. On Friday the flow reach up to 300m3/s!  



  Following heavy rains, the Reka River floods in the cave, usually reaching levels up to 30 metres; the highest recorded rise in the water level was 132 metres.  



  On Friday mornig the flood in the Cave reached levels up to 66 meters ! and the part of the touristic trail in the Caves was flooded for few hours.
