We have established the Committee for Sustainable Development with the aim of promoting activities that contribute to the sustainable development of the area and help preserve or improve the state of natural and cultural heritage. The committee follows business practices within the influential area, fosters connections, and promotes providers while also facilitating their education and training in the field of sustainable business practices. It includes all interested stakeholders from the Karst Biosphere Reserve (municipalities of Divača, Hrpelje-Kozina, Pivka, and Ilirska Bistrica).
As part of the Committee for Sustainable Development, we organized two professional excursions showcasing selected examples of good practices in the Julian Alps Biosphere Reserve and the Kozjansko and Obsotelje Biosphere Reserve.
The first professional excursion took place in Triglav National Park, where we visited the pr'Odolnek farm, the holder of the Triglav National Park Quality Label. As an example of good practice, they presented two workshops from a range of experiences. We then walked along part of the 6th stage of the Juliana Trail, which runs from the pr'Odolnek farm through the village of Stara Fužina to the Bohinjka Info Center. At the info center, they introduced us to the collaboration between the Triglav National Park Public Institution and the Julian Alps community, as well as the restructuring of the info center into the center of the biosphere reserve. Additional information on collaboration between camps and other providers was obtained at Camp Danica, which strives for continuous improvement in environmental protection, safety, and service quality and has received the ECOCAMPING certificate.
The second professional excursion took place in Kozjansko Park, where park representatives presented the brand "Coexistence - Kozjanski Park" and their collaboration with providers and the biosphere reserve itself. We also visited an orchard with numerous native and traditional varieties of apples and pears managed by Kozjansko Park and a fruit processing facility. The excursion concluded with a visit to Kozjanska homestead.
